ABUJA- The stage is set for an exciting confrontation at the 2024 Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League, which offers a total prize fund of 15 million naira.
The competition's final round will take place in Abuja from December 3 to 14, 2024. Teams in both the men's and women's categories will fight for substantial financial incentives.
Martin Melandi, the Nigeria Volleyball Federation's Technical Director, spoke to the players and coaches at the technical meeting as teams were ready to play.
Throughout the competition, he urged them to maintain the greatest levels of sportsmanship.
The technical meeting, which was attended by referees and coaches from the participating teams, was a crucial step in making sure the competition ran smoothly and laid the groundwork for what looks to be an exciting and competitive league.
The first-place winners in each category would receive 3.5 million naira each, with runners-up receiving 2.5 million.
Third-place finishers would not be left empty-handed, with each team receiving 1.5 million naira.
While addressing journalists, the Chairman of the Nigeria Volleyball Coaches Association (NVCA), Elishama Elam, expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his significant investment in volleyball.
“The prize money for this year’s league is truly remarkable. It will undoubtedly serve as a huge motivator for all the teams.
“This gesture shows the tremendous support that Customs has for the development of volleyball in Nigeria, and we are hopeful that it will spur the players to give their absolute best during the second phase of the competition”, Elam said.
