A group of protesters stormed the Abia State Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in condemnation of last week’s Presidential and National Assembly polls.
The protesters, who claimed to be from various parts of Abia and were organized under the Coalition of Civil Society, showed up at the INEC facility with placards to voice their displeasure over the alleged election fraud committed by INEC officials.
The Coalition of Civil Society, led by Mr. Irobinkansi Abraham, accused INEC officials of failing to electronically transmit the results of the elections last Saturday as being promised by the electoral umpire.
The issued a warning, stating that Abia State or any other Abia State party must ensure that the irregularities of the February 25 are not repeated on Governorship and State Assembly elections scheduled for March 11, 2023.
They questioned why election results were not uploaded as they were being counted, also voiced their opinions for INEC to repair its damaged reputation on March 11 by acting credibly.
Irobinkansi insisted that no politician or political party had funded or organized his organization to hold the protest.
To stop thugs from hijacking the demonstration, stern-looking security personnel stationed at the INEC office in the government station layout stayed on guard throughout it.
