According to Professor Olufemi Peters, the vice-chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), 65 inmates from prisons will graduate at the institution's next convocation.
He clarified that the 28,740 students who would graduate from the university include the 65 prisoners.
He explained that of the 65 prisoners, 58 are undergraduate students and seven are postgraduate students on Tuesday during the institution's 12th pre-convocation briefing in Abuja.
He went on to say that the institution provides scholarships to the inmates as part of its social obligation, allowing them to study for free and giving them the chance to support themselves after serving their sentences.
Six students would receive First Class, 2,306 Second Class Upper, 11,075 Second Class Lower, and 5,558 Third Class, according to Professor Peters.
He said, "To encourage students and parents to participate from the centers close to them, the convocation will take place concurrently at the 114 study centers of the varsity around the country."
He stated that NOUN was developing a fresh plan for the National Youths Service Corps in the hopes that it would be accepted more favorably and attract people.
