In anticipation of the 2027 general elections, the Labour Party (LP) National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, declared on Wednesday that the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, will be the party’s candidate.
Arabambi during a television programme mentioned that Tinubu would face significant challenges in the upcoming general elections.
Rocketparrot News recall that Obi was the LP’s presidential candidate in 2023 but was defeated by President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obi secured third place in a highly competitive election, coming behind the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Additionally, Arabambi criticized actor-turned-politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, for his choice to leave the party.
He viewed Okonkwo’s departure as beneficial for the LP as it prepares to challenge the current administration in 2027.
Arabambi expressed doubts about Okonkwo’s allegiance to the LP, accusing him of collaborating with President Tinubu and the ruling APC.
“Tinubu will not have an easy time in 2027; we are returning with Peter Obi to demonstrate our seriousness.
We wish Kenneth Okonkwo well; his resignation is a welcome relief. He should refrain from commenting on the Labour Party again.
“There is no crisis in the leadership of the Labour Party. The Labour Party is not heading towards extinction; that notion is merely a product of our detractors' imaginations,” he stated.
