The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set its sights on Herve Renard to become the new head coach of the Super Eagles for the 2026 World Cup.
This comes despite Renard's current role as manager of the France Women's team, a position with a ticking clock according to French outlet L'Equipe.
Reports suggest his departure is imminent, likely happening after the upcoming Olympics.
Adding fuel to the fire, Renard himself confirmed he's already communicated his intentions to the French Football Federation (FFF).
His sights seem set on a return to men's football, specifically with an eye on the 2026 World Cup.
"It's a demanding job," Renard acknowledged.
"To be brief, I have the 2026 World Cup in men's football in the back of my mind. I hope to make it my third World Cup at the helm of a men's team. Those are my motivations," he revealed.
This news positions Renard as a highly sought-after commodity. Beyond Nigeria's interest, reports indicate Poland, South Korea, Cameroon, and even Morocco (should Walid Regragui depart) are all circling the experienced coach.
With his proven pedigree, having led Zambia and Ivory Coast to Africa Cup of Nations victories, it's no surprise numerous national teams see him as a potential difference-maker.
The coming months will be crucial, with both the conclusion of the Women's Olympics and the decisions of other national federations likely playing a role in determining Renard's next destination.
Will he take on the challenge of reviving the Super Eagles, or will another nation manage to secure his services? Only time will tell.
