Nigeria's Sports Minister, John Enoh, has declared the government's unwavering commitment to propelling Team Nigeria to "remarkable success" at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
In a statement released by his media aide, Diana-Mary Nsan on Friday, Minister Enoh highlighted past achievements as inspiration for the 2024 Olympics which will be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11.
He emphasized Nigeria's ambition to replicate the nation's triumphant 1996 Atlanta Olympics performance, aiming for nothing less than gold medals in Paris.
"We must strive for continuous improvement in all areas," Enoh remarked. "Following Atlanta 1996, the time has come for Nigeria to clinch at least one gold medal at the Olympics."
To realize this goal, the Ministry of Sports Development has established a dedicated "ministerial podium performance committee."
This committee is tasked with strategic planning and execution to ensure Nigerian athletes reach their full potential.
"The committee is meticulously evaluating sports where Nigeria possesses a competitive edge," Enoh explained.
The Ministry is also working closely with the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) and individual sports federations. Collaborative efforts include crafting comprehensive training programs and establishing training camps, both within Nigeria and internationally.
Minister Enoh emphasized the significance of collaboration: "Success hinges on a collective effort. The Ministry, NOC, and federations are working in synergy to ensure we send a highly competitive team to Paris that will represent Nigeria with pride."
With preparations well underway, Nigeria is gearing up to showcase its athletic prowess on the global stage. Team Nigeria is determined to leave a lasting legacy of sporting excellence through meticulous planning, rigorous training regimens, and unwavering determination.
While some Nigerian athletes and sports have already secured qualification, others are still in the qualification process.
