JIGAWA, Nigeria - A 20-year-old man named Muhammad Salisu has reportedly killed his father, Salisu Abubakar, using a machete in the Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, in a statement to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, on Monday.
The attack took place around 10 am in the Bakin Kasuwa Quarters of the Sara District, where Salisu inflicted severe injuries on his father's shoulder, neck, and chest with the machete.
Despite being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for treatment, the victim was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Sara and his patrol team were dispatched to the location to evacuate the victim to the hospital.
The victim's body was later handed over to family members for burial. Salisu, the suspect, was arrested, and the machete used in the assault was confiscated.
The Commissioner of Police for Jigawa State, AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a thorough inquiry.
He stated that once the investigation is completed, the suspect will face charges in court.

Adam also noted that the motive for the murder remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
He encouraged the public to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation, assuring that it will be conducted rigorously and transparently.
Adam concluded by stating that the suspect is currently in police custody and efforts are being made to understand the facts surrounding the case.
