LAGOS, Nigeria- At least 15 individuals, including children, have sustained various degrees of burns following a gas explosion in the Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
The incident also resulted in a fire that damaged a bungalow with 15 rooms and seven shops located at 12 Amosu Street, in the Ijora Badia area.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the explosion in a statement issued to the press on Sunday.
Adeseye reported that the explosion took place around 4:10 PM when a gas leak, caused by mishandling of products, ignited after coming into contact with a nearby flame, ultimately leading to an explosion that caused chaos in the community.
She noted, “The resulting fire has been extinguished, and the remnants of the gas cylinders have been removed, eliminating the danger and restoring normalcy to the area.
Fifteen individuals, comprising both adults and children of different genders, are suffering from varying degrees of burn injuries. Some victims have received first aid, while others have been taken to the hospital.
Thankfully, it is important to note that none of the injuries are life-threatening. Responding to the incident were the Sari Iganmu Fire Station from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, supported by LASEMA, LNSC, and LASAMBUS.
