ABUJA, Nigeria - Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru stated on Wednesday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration has made significant progress in enhancing the security and defense of the nation's territorial integrity over the past two years.
Specifically, he noted that during this time, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies neutralized at least 13,543 adversaries, including bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, and other criminals.
Since taking office on May 29, 2023, the minister emphasized that the administration has significantly bolstered military operations with advanced and modern equipment to address insecurity across various regions of the country.
He made these remarks during the seventh iteration of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series at the National Press Centre in Abuja, aimed at providing updates to Nigerians about the ministry's activities and performance over the last two years.
Additionally, he reported that approximately 17,469 suspected criminals from the mentioned groups were apprehended in different operational theaters.
Moreover, 9,821 Nigerians, including women and children, were rescued from the clutches of terrorists and kidnappers nationwide, while 124,408 terrorists surrendered to the troops.
