ONDO, Nigeria - Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has endorsed the hiring of 1,000 secondary school teachers in the state. Additionally, he is finalizing the employment of another 1,000 primary school teachers.
A statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Monday revealed that this approval came after the Teaching Service Commission concluded its recruitment process.
Rocketparrot News recall that last year, the state TESCOM evaluated thousands of applicants for teaching positions.
The statement indicated that those selected will start their documentation promptly.
“The governor approved the recruitment of 1,010 secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school teachers last year, marking the commencement of the recruitment efforts by TESCOM and the State Universal Basic Education Board.
“While the final list for the secondary school candidates was authorized by the governor on Friday, the list for primary school candidates is still being finalized.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has expressed worries regarding the lack of teaching staff in public schools, particularly in rural areas.
This prompted his directive for the recruitment process to address the specific needs of schools that are facing staff shortages across the state,” the statement states.
Rocketparrot News also reports that to enhance education in the state, on Friday, February 28, 2025, the governor sanction the payment of N633m for registering students for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination conducted by the West African Examination Council.
Furthermore, the governor approved the upgrade and transformation of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into the University of Agriculture and Agribusiness, Owo.
