The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), on Monday expressed shock over the discovery of the lifeless body of its first-year student, Okenyi Favour Oluchukwu, in a drainage ditch on the school premises.
Favour, who enrolled in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, allegedly had her remains dumped in a drainage channel near Akanu Ibiam Stadium.
It is yet to be ascertained what led to her death, but the university management said it was already working with security agencies and her family to unravel the circumstances behind it.
A statement on Sunday confirming the ugly incident, signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the school, Okun Omeaku, said the university community had been thrown into mourning by the discovery.
He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, Okenyi Favour Oluchukwu, was a first-year student enrolled in our Department of Medical Laboratory Science.
"The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student.
"The management is collaborating with security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents in the future."
Omeaku implored anyone in possession of useful information that could aid in the investigation to kindly reach out to the University administration.
